Discovering the Heart of Filipino Craftsmanship
Back in the early 2000s, when I first encountered the work of Filipino artisans, I didn’t see it as business. It was simply admiration. What I saw wasn’t just a product, it was culture, history, and identity expressed through craftsmanship.
Each piece carried intention. Every weave, every stitch, every detail reflected skill that had been shaped over generations. What began as appreciation slowly grew into something deeper. I realized there was a massive gap between the extraordinary talent in the Philippines and the global audience who would value and celebrate it.
The beauty was there. The craftsmanship was world-class. But there was no bridge.
That realization became the foundation of Soláyae.
Why Soláyae Was Born
I didn’t start Soláyae because I had a background in fashion or e-commerce. I started it because I believed Filipino artisans deserved to be seen.
Soláyae was born from a desire to connect the world to the incredible makers in the Philippines, to bring their talent to a global stage while creating meaningful, sustainable opportunities for them.
We are not driven by “big brand” polish. We are driven by craftsmanship. By people. By heritage.
Every bag we produce is handcrafted, not one is exactly alike. Each artisan brings their own rhythm, technique, and personal touch. No two pieces are identical, and that is precisely the beauty of it.
This isn’t mass production. This is artistry.
